NextGen Committee

Former International Vice President Phil Flemming noticed that younger members were less involved in union activities than older generations. Research confirmed this, revealing that many IBEW members under 35 years of age were unfamiliar with union meeting procedures and felt uncomfortable participating.

The IBEW Local 230 NextGen Committee was chartered in November 2017 with the goal of providing space for the younger workforce to connect with other IBEW members. NextGen’s goal is not only to connect members with one another, but also to provide valuable education to transfer knowledge from one generation to the next.

We want our IBEW youth to be positioned for success, and that means understanding union procedures.
